Project 3
Space and Sensory
Brief
We were tasked to re-examine our 1:1 structure and develop it into a series of Sensorial Spaces with a total volumetric boundaries of 20m³.
Outcome
One monochromatic scale 1:10 model with four A1 sized presentation boards.
Duality
For my second project, the theme of our group was celebrate so I had to follow the same theme for my design. I started off by coming up with a few narratives and models to follow them.
Mock-Up Models
The three mock-up models I made before I went on to make the final model. They are all very different as I had to design the models based on my narrative that I changed multiple times.
Final Model
I decided to go with the narrative of celebrating reunions for my final model. This space is designed to celebrate a reunion with a friend that has been away for a long time.
The journey starts as both friends enter the space from different ends. This represents that both of them are coming back together from their different lives after years of being apart from each other. They will then enter a tight space filled with challenges. The challenges come in the form of stairs leading towards the circular platform. This represents the challenges faced by both of them as everyone faces challenges in life. Different types of stairs are used to show that different people face different challenges but in the end we all still have to overcome our challenges. The walls here are made from concrete to give the space a cold and uncomfortable feeling, making us want to avoid the space just like how we prefer to avoid challenges in our lives.
Once both friends overcome their challenges, they finally meet at the final space which is the circular space on top. They are now standing above the challenges they overcame throughout their journey here. They are now able to take a seat and share their stories of their lives to catch up with each other. The glass walls makes it able for both friends to look across to the challenges on the other side as they now know the stories that they have shared to one another.
Presentation Board
The four presentation boards that I prepared for my final presentation. It was very time consuming and tiring as I am not very good at drawing but overall I feel satisfied with the outcome.
Presentation
I was feeling nervous as this was my first time presenting in the course but thankfully everything went well for me. I was also able to learn a lot from my crit as they gave me many useful tips on how to improve my work for the upcoming semesters. Finally, I am proud that I was able to complete my final project for this semester despite the challenges and hurdles.
